Lockdown WK4 to WK10 T3 2021
Here are some photos of our students during their online learning this week.
Science in a Van Visit
Our students always love a visit from 'Science in a Van'. On this occasion our junior school were treated to a session on Bubbles, while our senior students enjoyed experiencing 'Sound'.
Peter Pan Dress up Day
Rooms 1 - 7 enjoyed a Peter Pan Dress up Day this week after their special trip to the Aotea Centre to watch the theatre production. Many Tinkerbells, Peters, Pirates and a few Crocodiles and Captain Hooks took over the playground and sang Pirate songs in the hall. Thankfully - no-one was made to walk the plank!
Fun Football Sessions
Football for Children came in this week to hold a fun Football session for every classroom. The children enjoyed playing some dribbling games as a warm-up before heading of to the inflatable pitch for a quick game of 6 a side.
The Mt Carmel Kid
The Mt Carmel Kid is our school profile of the skills, dispositions and attitudes we want our graduate students to leave with. The ‘Kid’ was developed during discussions with the teachers, BOT and parents of Mt Carmel. The profile states:
- I set goals, seek challenges and solve problems
- I show love, care and respect for myself, others and God’s world
- I live my Catholic faith and I am learning to be like Jesus
- I serve people in our community
- I am a learner wherever and whenever I can be
- I strive to be positive and happy
- I am self-confident, strong and resilient
- I strive to be the best I can be
- I show creativity, imagination and innovation
- I am a collaborative team member who listens to others and contributes my own ideas
- I am kind, caring and inclusive
The Mt Carmel Kid is a major focus for our students. It is not a technically a graduate profile but rather a profile we all work at from Year 1 through to Year 6. The statements are discussed in class and playground, and teased out as to what they might look like and sound like for students at varying age levels. By cultivating these wide range of traits, our students will be building the key resources of a confident learner with a strong Catholic identity that will serve them well as they move from Mt Carmel to their college education.
A range of animals from Fr Sam’s exotic pigeons to huge dogs were brought to school for our Pet Parade. The students enjoyed parading and viewing the pets and this was followed by a prayer of thanks, a blessing and a sprinkling with Holy Water. Students, and parents (and pets!) enjoyed the parade immensely.
