Despite a late start due to the weather, all our Year 5 & 6 students took part in Hockey, Netball or Soccer for the Winter Interschool's competition. The children had a very enjoyable day and it was fantastic to see them participate with such enthusiasm. Our Mt Carmel children are great sports!
Our annual School Cross Country was held on Wednesday last week in glorious weather conditions. We had a great turn out of spectators and supporters on the side lines cheering the runners to the finish line. Well done to everyone who took part and to the winning runners.
Last term the new entrants celebrated their first 100 days of school. The junior school had a mufti day with the theme of ‘dress up as someone who looks 100 years old’.
Pukeko class visited Oceania Retirement Village. They sang five songs, including our school song Ka Waiata and the Irish Blessing. The children also gave gifts of plants to the residents and letters that had been written by some of our Year 2 and 3 children. The following week residents from Oceania came to visit Mt Carmel and the Art show. They came back with letters for our year 2 / 3 students who has written to them. Everyone really enjoyed the visit and the visitors loved looking at our school art on display in the hall.
This was a lovely connection to make, and we look forward r to welcoming these members of our local community back to our school soon
The PTA Danceathon was a huge success! The children had a great evening dancing and raised a fantastic amount of money that will go towards some exciting projects we have in the pipeline. Thank you to all the helpers on the night, everyone's efforts to gain sponsorship, and of course the PTA for organising a very memorable evening.
We celebrated International week at Mt Carmel with a variety of activities during the week culminating with a fantastic cultural day on Friday. Everyone was encouraged to wear their cultural dress and we were treated to a feast of Filippino food by the lovey Filippino parents in our school.
Tui and Takahe had a lovely trip to Te Tuhi Art Gallery in Pakuranga. This gallery provides interactive, hands-on learning experiences in the art studio and a tour of Te Tuhi’s current exhibitions.
At the School working bee on Sunday 19th May parents turned up and helped with projects on the school grounds
We refilled the bark on the playground , weeded and planted and installed the much anticipated Mud Kitchen which as you can see is a big hit at school.
The school was a stunning display of pink today as we joined in with many schools and organisations across the country promoting kindness and inclusion. Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying. This year your donation will go to the Mitey programme that we are implementing in school, which is about supporting and growing our children’s mental health and well-being.
We have been very lucky to have Jessika from College Riffles visit us over the past few weeks giving the children the opportunity to take part in Rippa Rugby training sessions. Rippa rugby is a very popular sport in New Zealand and is a great way for children to learn ball handling and running skills, hand eye coordination and team building skills. The children have enjoyed these sessions, and it has been great seeing them having fun and growing in confidence in their ability.
