St Patrick's day was celebrated this week with a green themed mufti day . The students and staff got into the spirit of the day with all sorts of green costumes . The children learnt all about St. Patrick , the Patron Saint of Ireland in their class rooms.
In February, Mt Carmel Year 4 and 5 students enjoyed an exciting day at Mairangi Bay to learn about beach safety.
The lifeguards from Surf Lifesaving New Zealand explained the importance of swimming between the flags, how to identify a rip and what to do if you ever get caught in one. They also went over some important sun safety tips. The students loved being shown the life-saving equipment, especially the IRB!
These skills were then transferred to the water where the students 'saved' each other using rescue tubes and finally ended the day with boogie board races.
The highlight of the day was spending the afternoon in the sea boogie boarding and participating in water confidence activities.
Rippa Rugby 2026
Last week and this week we have had the team from College Rifles come in to run some rippa rugby sessions with us
We have been very lucky with the weather and all the children have had a fantastic time improving their throwing, catching and general ball skills
Our first Mass this year was to Celebrate Ash Wednesday - the start of the season of Lent. Thank you to Father Lobo who celebrated mass in Father Raphael's absence.

Pukeko class bought festive joy to the school and to the residents of Meadowbank Oceania Retirement Village with a beautiful Nativity performance. Thank you to Mrs McClay and Mrs Calthorpe for their hard work in bringing the show to life.
This week Pukeko class was able to see the fruit of their labour as they harvested the garden they planted in term 3 as part of the Caritas challenge
Mrs. MacClay and the children found strawberries, carrots, cabbages and kale as well as lettuce.
The ladies from Te Waiouna Puawai charity came to collect our vegetables so that they can be distributed to families in the areas for them to enjoy.
This charity grew out of the work of the sisters of Mercy in Glen Innes who support women and families in the Tamaki community. The volunteers said that the vegetables will be given to families in need so that the children in GI can can enjoy healthy dinners
In week 6, term 4 the whole school enjoyed a fun sports day organised by Mrs. McClay and Miss De Waal and the Year 6 students.
The children competed in their house groups and participated in a range of fun activities; throw the gum boot, egg and spoon, three legged races and sack races.
We were very lucky with the great weather and we had lots of fun.
Epro8
Last week our Year 5 and 6 classes participated in the Epro8 challenge. EPro8 is an inter-school science and engineering competition. Every year over 35,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part. Students participate in a series of events: firstly, within their school and then inter-school. These events are designed to promote science, engineering and problem solving. Our students demonstrated amazing problem solving, engineering and teamwork, with the two winning teams heading to the inter-school competition which is taking place at Stanhope Road Primary School next week. Well done to everyone.

On 2nd September Mt Carmel opened our doors to a Science Expo. Parents, friends and family came to see the incredible learning the students had worked on over the term.
It was a lovely evening and a chance for the children to show off their work, explain their findings and also the steps they went through as part of the learning process.
