Last week, we celebrated Filipino Language Week. Our Mt Carmel Filipino community organized some wonderful surprises for us. On Monday after school, we enjoyed an ice scramble treat, thanks to Caramella Bakery for providing the delicious refreshments. Throughout the week, we watched a video about the Philippines and enjoyed a special video performance by our Filipino children at school. It was a fantastic celebration of Filipino language, culture, and community.
Jammies for June
Today has been a day full of excitement with our fundraising day, Jammies for June and the anticipation of the PTA movie evening later today. The children enjoyed wearing their pyjamas, onesies and slippers today as we collected pyjamas to donate. Sadly, many families in our wider community are facing a very difficult winter. Jammies for June appeal, helps to keep vulnerable children warm and out of hospital during winter. Giving is a powerful way for our students to practise love in action.
By giving a pair of pyjamas to another child, our students learn kindness, gratitude, and that as Catholics we are called to help, and look after each other, especially those in need. Today, the children donated 180 pairs of pjs!!!
The children had a lot of fun when Junky Monkey came to school. They engaged in learning that extended beyond their classroom walls. Throughout the day, we saw the children stepping outside their usual style of learning to collaborate and problem-solve, testing out ideas and then adapting them if needed. This type of learning allows children to develop divergent thinking, the ability to see multiple solutions to a single problem. All the teachers were impressed with the creativity, co-operation and range of creations made by the children.
