2023 Takahe Art
April 27, 2023

In religion we have embraced Te Reo Maori and the English translation of the sign of the cross, whilst depicting the traditional cross symbol, associated with our Catholic faith.
Takahe's spectacular 'Royal Self Portraits' involved blending colours for the skin tone. The colour palette included white, black, brown, yellow, beige and gold. By looking at our reflection we practiced guided drawing to establish the facial features. The background colours on the image were warm or cold, with radiating lines to the edge of the parchment paper. The students then selected a crown template that they traced, cut and glued to their self portraits. The final step was painting coloured glitter to the crowns, creating a unique portrait, to express individuality and the complexity of identity. Can you guess the Takahe boys and girls shown in the portraits displayed?
