July 2011
The
Education Review Office has recently completed its review of Mt Carmel
Primary.
The
Education Review Office visits schools every three years and primarily looks at
the quality of education being provided by the school and areas where the school
may move to next. The written report also focuses on particular areas decided
upon as a national focus by the Ministry of Education. This year’s review
included a focus on Maori and Pacific student engagement, progress and
achievement as well as students with special needs.
As
a Board we are very pleased with the very positive comments made by the team
throughout the review week and the resultant report. Please note that all ERO
reports are now significantly briefer than in the past and while the team looks
as all aspects of the school the written report concentrates largely on just a
few areas.
The
BOT was pleased to hear from the reviewers that the school is continuing to
perform extremely well in terms of student learning and achievement, effective
school management, professional leadership provided by the Principal and senior
staff, and community support. The
school is well up to date and has very successfully implemented the new NZ
Curriculum (2009) and National
Standards (2010).
As
a Board we feel extremely confident the school is working as effectively as
possible to meet the varied needs
of our students. This is
demonstrated not only by this review,
but also our extremely positive Catholic Character Review undertaken in
2010 and through our own internal self review
practices.
I
wish to thank the Principal Annette Donnelly, Senior staff Belinda Perry and
Sandra Gerrard and all our wonderful teachers and support staff for their hard
work over the past three years leading to the success of this ERO
Review.
